Chh au  Dance The Chhau dance of Eastern India -- Orissa, Jharkhand, and West Bengal – is a blend of martial traditions, temple rituals, and folk and popular performance of this region Episodes from the epics Mahabharata, Ramayana, Puranas, traditional folklore, local legends and abstract themes through the medium of dance and a music ensemble that consists primarily of indigenous drums. In its traditional context, the dance is intimately connected with the festivals and rituals of this region. Important among these is the Chaitra Parva celebrated in the month of April. The month of Chaitra celebrates the advent of spring and the start of the harvesting season. The melody is interwoven and is provided by reed pipes like the Mohuri, Turi-Bheri and Shehnai. Bharatanatyam    Bharatanatyam, also called Sadhir Attam.  Bharatanatyam is one of the very famous traditional Indian dances in South India. It is usually performed in the temples of Tamil Nadu, by professional dancers. Bh+ra+ta + Natyam   ? According to the Hindu tradition the of Bharatanatyam is derived from the two Sanskrit words Bharata   and Natyam where Natyam means dance and bharata is a mnemonic comprising bha(bhava), ra(raga) and ta(tala) which respectively means bhava that is emotions and feelings; raga that is melody; and tala that is rhythm. Traditionally the word refers to a dance form where bhava, raga and tala are expressed. History and evolution...    Dance   is a performing art form  consisting of purposefully selected sequences of human movement.  This movement has  a symbolic  value, and is acknowledged as dance by performers and observers within a particular culture.  Dance can be categorized and described by its choreography. Other forms of human movement are sometimes said to have a dance-like quality, including Martial art,   gymnastics ,  cheerleading ,  figure skating ,  marching bands, and many other forms of athletics.
